‘Parakotti Pattu’ done to ward off ‘Sanidosham’
‘Parakotti Pattu’ is one among the age-old rituals that has been practiced over the years at kallely oorali appooppan kavu (orginal sanctum). This devotional percussion is done to keep away various doshams including the ‘Sani Dosham’ and has a legend attached to it. During the time of Palazhi Madhanam, Sani’s curse befell on Lord Vishnu. To protect him, Lord Siva and Parvathi took the form of ‘Velan’ and ‘Vedathi’ and sang remedial songs.
